Box, Rubber Gloves, Candy, Video

Help Yourself uses candy to explore the relationship between the oppressed and the distant witnesses of oppression.
As media consumers in a conflict-free zone, we access the stories of victims with both extreme remoteness and voyeuristic intimacy.
The setting inside the box suggests a double identification, to both the oppressed and their oppressor. The viewer is invited to observe the scene from an uneasy posture, both submissive and dominating, stuck between empathy, apathy and guilt, powerlessness and liability.
